Bingo! You have just described so well, one of the deepest points of tension that I’ve witnessed and wrestled with. Before I became a licensed professional, I did my own work. Much work. Arduous. Slow. I practiced the presence of God. Learned to wait and trust. When I started sharing in a newsletter it was for the joy of serving the church. Then online social media took off - and sharing became platforming. Serving became marketing. And it was soul killing. I stepped away. For myself, I couldn’t discern the presence of God in the social space. I came to see that the facets of our human frailty which you write about - narcissism in the church and everywhere else we humans leave a footprint - continue to diminish us as image bearers. We are reduced by our striving to be more. I’m learning to form the boundaries God gives me around the treasure He’s given me to share. I’m learning to share wisely and by his direction and in his timing. Where my good shepherd leads, there’s peace, joy, fruitfulness, healing. If I take the wide road, I only encounter the thief.
